Balancing Act

January 31, 2016

Coming up for air once again. Seems like when you have things that you're passionate about, you can throw yourself into them so deep that sometimes you forget to breathe. Because you enjoy what you're doing. You enjoy the path and the journey, even though it seems long and hard.

Since I've been engrossed in other things over the past few years, I haven't really been in close touch with the publishing industry. Of course, I've been connected to social media so I've watched authors flourish and new authors come onto the scene. But I have not necessarily kept in the know of the publishing market or publishing trends.

Well, now I'm catching up and I almost feel overwhelmed. The industry has indeed changed so much with publishing methods, publishing trends, and marketing opportunities. Although I don't feel like I will have to start off at square one again, I do feel that I have to study the industry again to get up to speed. And I can do this while I continue my writing projects.

Some of the changes put questions in my mind though. E-books seems to be gaining traction (since when I published); self-publishing--which was a gamble and was considered inferior when I published--seems to no longer be taboo; and traditional publishing seems even more elusive. On top of this, it appears that the industry is possibly in the midst of a transition between traditional and self-publishing. And then there's the whole Amazon thingy. (more…)

Writing by Immersion

I have to admit that sometimes writing can seem like a hit or miss activity for me. Writer's block would be such a lovely and convenient excuse to quote, but is not the case--at least not with me. Simply, it's life.

Find a quite space, schedule your writing time, and just write for 15 minutes straight without judgement are tips that I hear and read. I must admit that I've tried most of those and failed. For me, I find that forcing myself to do something just doesn't work for me. Yet, I understand the concept of repeating an action to create a habit. Sounds good and works well with most people and even for me for somethings. But not writing. (more…)

So it only took me about five or six years to get my website back up. I can finally check this one off the to-do list! Just one of those things where you get so busy...relocation here, a surgery there...next thing you know, boom, it's six years later!

But I'm excited to get things going again. Well, things have been going nonstop, but now I'm getting to the point where I can start focusing more on my writing. Got two book projects that I slated to be complete this year and got plans for 2015. Not that I want to get ahead of myself.

Anyway, I want to finish this while I'm hot on the trail. Put up excerpts and hope that later this year, I can add excepts to the books that I have in the works. Got to get it done!
